Reductions in the police force have been commenced in the Dunedin district, which has been reduced by nine constables. Third-class sergeants have been reduced to the graiie of first-class constables, , CHRISTCHURCH. ■ > ■ July 22. This afternoon a very successful charge was fired at the Lyttelton Dock Works. The charge contained' 2950 lbs : powder. It was the most snccessful mine yet- fired on the works. An accident to one of the workmen occurred shortly afterwards. Several went up to a ledge to send down a quantity of clay, and while so engaged some slipped apd fell on to a man named Alfred Nurse and broke his thigh, He was attended'to by Dr. Rouse, The accident is greatly regretted, as. the contractors take every care to prevent injury to the men, and in this instance no indications of danger .could be noticed. , It; has been determined to give the Committee of the exhibition a complimentary banquet. Rogutski. was; bush-felling, with others when a tree fell on him, causing injuries, ,to ; his back t and head.
