FIRES IN DUNEDIN.

The first, which broke • out about U destroyed a stora and dwelling-Jiouse iu Forth-street, owned by Mr. It Thompson,, and occupied by [his spiji, Mr. Hugh Thompson. The building was insured for L2oot with the Norwich Insurance Company, and the stock , : for L4OO in the South British Office. Mr. < H. Thompson states that some L 54 was in I the shop till, and was not recovered. A [kerosene lamp had'been left burning i« | the bedroom Dy Mr. Thompson, while hj& j went to meet his wife and family 4 and iitt, is conjectured that the fire originated ini some mauner from this lamp, as ib broke out in the bedroom. The second fire occurred in a large, two-.. storeyed wooden building, forming part off 1 Fidler's Auldl Scotland Hotel, n«a» fch©l ' Gaol, in §,tuart-street v . Tho osigiu of the, fire ia unknown. The bwi&Sing was in-' suredj in the Rational office for LSOO, L 40.- of which was divided amongst thft Norwich Union, Victoria and South British. The stock waß insured; for LI3Q, and the, furniture for UMipv ini v the Royal. 1 Later, There appears ta fee aom-e circumstances the Auld Sco,U land fire. The broke out early in th& evening, and' was extinguished, ThiQ police are investigating the matter
