The Oamaru Mail. MONDAY, JULY 12, 1880.

Mr. W. A. Murray is not unmindful of fais constituents, Though separated from them for a long time, tfrey are to him ever, "to memory dear." Not long sipce some at any rate of his constituents were disappointed because Mr. Murray did not condescend to visit the district .and deliver one of his stirring orations. They were annoyed because he did not attempt-, by personal observation, to ascertain what the require.ments of their district were, but was contented to reside month after month in the sunny north, Jo the neglect of the interesting, if moist, locality wljich he is supposed to represent in Parliament. The yerbose gentleman has lately been making some atienpment for past sins, and has adopted a novel mode of seeking communication with his constituents. Jfo has sent a report of his speech on the no-coiiiitlciice debate to the Bruce Herald, together with certain inquiries, one with refer -iiie to the suitability of the Council Hall for the sittings of the Resident Magistrate's Court, and another in rcgar.d to some verandah in the erection of which he lias taken a deep interest. This is the reply l;e foas obtained from the Herald, which seems to occupy ftfs peculiar position of assuming itself to be the. jembQdiment of the whole of Mr, Murray's constituents :—"Notice to correspondents.— W. A. M., Wellington—Compelled to condense speech. Xote attended to. Council Hall unsuitable. No means of filing records gofely. Verandah not up yet, nor any sign of it, Papers forwarded." Brief but pointed this, but it is outdone for coolness by the following paragraph frori). tfie same issue of our contemporary : —" AV c beg to the special attention of Mr. W, A. Murray, M.H.R., to our remarks upon the Courthouse, and on the subject of the Hospital Bill." This is certainly a very unique way of doina business. 'W hat we should like to know is : Does Mr. Murray consider himself the representative of the Bruce Herald? I£ not, who or what does he represmt ? Again, if Mr. Murray represents the Bruco Herald, does the Herald represent the electors ? If the Herald does not represent the electors, who does do so ? Certainly not Mr. W. A. Murray.
