GALE AT WELLINGTON.
(by teligbai'K.)Wellington July 5. A southerly wind has been blowing for the past two days. It increased to a strong gale early this morning, and; blew with unabated fury throughout the day. The shipping fit the wharf jwd, Jweast-
work escaped without injury. A brigantine which ran in for shelter and brought up at the far side of the harbor was, at dusk, observed to bo drifting towards Petone Beach. However, as thero is a good anchorage near the beach, it is expected she will ride out the storm. It ig still raining heavily, and there is no sign of the gale moderating. Later. Owing to the boisterous weather to-day, no vessels were able to leavo the harbor. Apparently some damage has been done on the coach road from Wanganui to Wellington, as the coach has not .yot .arrived. The galo has increased, and is blowing with hurricane force.
