At the finish of the walking match the hall was crowded. Brooks, of Dunedin, won, having walked 116 miles in 24 hours, Swan, of CJhristchurch, was second, with 114 miles ; Malcolm, of Dunedin, was third, with 113 miles. M'Ewan, of Dunedin, retired at 106 miles very much exhausted. Drummond retired at 100: miles, Swan was pretty -vyell played oiit } and Brooks was also ' done. Malcolm looked good for another 20 miles.
