At a meeting of members of the House representing goldfields, including the members for Waitaki, held to-day, the following resolution was carried : —" That, in the opinion of this meeting, the administration of the goldfields has not for some time past received that attention at the hands of Ministers which, the importance of the* goldfields industry demands ; that the creation of a special mines department, which was intended to obviate in attention to the goldfields interest which has been so often ,complaine,4 of in years past, is rendered entirely nugatory by the system now adopted of nominally attaching the department tn a Miuisrei' ahv.ady overburdened with the cr.ro of other departments j tl:nt this injuring respectfully desires to submit its opinion to the Premier, requesting him to give thje matter iua earliest consideration."
