OAMARU SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

A special meeting of tho Oamaru Schools Committee was held last evening, when there were present—Messrs. Fleming (Chairman), Smith, Mollison, Bee, Stevenson, Forrester, Mitchell, and Hardy (Secretary). For the position of second assistant teacher; of the North Sohool eight applications were received, and it was decided that Mr, Lindsay should see the two applicants whose names stood first on the list, and report as to their respective qualifications.

It,was decided that the Education Board should be requested to advertise tiawin, and more widely, for a seoond assiflAnt for the High Sohool, and that the Secretary should call attention to the report of there being plenty of teachers in Wel,ington.

Mr. Peattie, Rector of the High School, reported that Mr. J. L. Cook, temporary assistant, had left the sohool to fill an appointment elsewhere, Mr. Alfred Gillman taking his plage ; that the classrooms required renovating; that the Board should be again requested to have a survey made of the High School grounds ; and that six panes of glass had been broken in the school out of school hours. The Secretary was directed to write again to the Board with reference to the boundary line of the High School grounds, detailing the circumstances, and asking that a survey might be made. It was decided that the inner walls of the High and North Schools be cleaned, the work of painting being deferred for the present, Letters were read from the Hampden and Pukeuri School Committees agreeing with the amendments proposed by tho Oamaru Committee in the Education Act, and from the Cambrians Committee, declining to agree thereto. It was resolved that the report drawn up by the SubCommittee should be forwarded to the Minister for Education, the members for the district in the House of Representatives, and the Hons. R. Campbell and H. J. Miller.

Several acoounts were passed for payment, as soon as funds are available, and the Committee rose.
