ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU MAIL. Sir, —Whoever Mr. Barley is I think he must be a most ignorant man, otherwise he surely would never have such a letter as appeared in your lai>» t night's issue. What a pity Mr. Barley does not live in this neighborhood, for I feel sure he would make a most intelligent juryman should his services ever be required. His questions are most absurd, for I really cannot see how the jury could possibly bring in a verdict direotly adverse to the evidence adduoed, for it was most emphatically proved that the deceased was not drunk. In respeot to the selling the Ss 6d worth of brandy, I cannot imagine what great crime there was in that. It was sold and paid for by one J. Reid, and should Mr. Barley ever coma this way I am sure Mr. Copeland, of the Windsor Hotel, would feel most happy to supply him with a flask, and also a drop just to nourish his inside. In conclusion, I would impress upon Mr. Barley to acquaint himself with faots, ere he again rushes into print about such a serious subjeot.-—I am, &c., Vox Veritas. Windsor, June 17, 1880.
