GENTLEMEN, Having received a numerously-signed requisition desiring bs to come forward as a candidate for the Mat la Parliament vacated by the resignatioa of Mr. Hislop, I have determined to flaes my services at your disposal. If elected, I will use my utmost endeavor to assist in carrying such measures as will justice alike to all classes of the community. I will give a hearty support to any Government that may be in power in carrying out roeh reforms as will condnce to the reduction •I departmental expenditure without destroying the efficiency of service, and in all honest endeavors to reduce taxation and to practice strict economy. The information which I have gained in connection with our railway system as a member of the Railway Commission will, I trust,-be of service to the country if lam elected, as it will enable me to aid in putting aa ead to all unprofitable railway schemes each as have been forced upon Parliament dazing past years. I shall be in favor of the utmost liberality, eaesistent with prudence, in settling poputatiM upon our Crown lands, and of conCaning the present liberal electoral law.
