GENTLEMEN", Having received a nnmerously-signeii requisition desiring me to come forward a3 a candidate for the seat in Parliament vacated by the resignation of Mr. Hislop, I have determined to place my services at your disposal. If elected, I will use my utmost endeavor to assist in carrying such measures as will de justice alike, to all classes of the community.
I will give a hearty .support to any Government that may he in power in carrying out such reforms as will conduce to the reduction of departmental expenditure without destroying the efficiency of service, and in all honest endeavors to reduce taxation and to
practice strict .economy. The information which £ have gained in connection -with our railway system, as a member of the Railway Commission will, I trust, be of service to the conntry if I am elected, as it will enable me to aid in putting sb end to all unprofitable railway schemes such as have teen forced upon Parliament
during past years^ I shall be in favor of the utmost liberality, consistent with prudence, in settling population upon oar Crown lands, and of continuing the present liberal electoral law. I will address yon at the various centres im the course of the ensuing fortnight, when I shall enter more particularly into a statement of my political views.
