NORTH OTAGO BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Committee of the North Otago Benevolent Society was held last evening, when there were present —Mr. J. H. Milligan (President), the Rev. A. Gifford, Messrs. M'Farlane, M'lntosh, Mollison, Ogilvie, Mirams, Falconer, Stevenson, Allan, Headland, and Greenfield, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the correspondence was read and approved. The Barrack-Master reported that there were eight children and four adults in the institution j that 13 domestic servants had been admitted into the Servants Home, eight of whom had obtained situations while five still remained in the Home, He also asked for instructions with regard to the purchase of clothing for some of the children, and acknowledged a gift of clothing from Mrs. Molison- He further reported that he had inspected the Society's cottages and found them in a fair state of repair. In regard to the case of Miss Burke, who had been received into the Home, it was deoided that the Honorary Surgeon should be requested to examine, her as to her sanity and report to the Visiting Committee, who were given power to deal with the case. It was decided that Mrs. Sullivan should have charge of Mrs. Young's child fpr another month, and regejve 8s per week.

The report of the Visiting Committee for the past month was read and adopted. The President was authorised to supply the clothing asked for by the Barrackmaster.

The Secretary (Mr. Hardy) reported that he received presents of clothing for the institution from the Hon. H. J. Miller and Messrs. T. W. Hislop and 0. Days, It was resolved that the thanks of the Society be conveyed to those gentlemen.

The Collector's report wa3 read and adopted. Mr. M'Farlane gave notice that he would move at next meeting, " That the Home be closed as a servant's home, and that the master's salary be reduced toL7S per annum," On the motion of Mr. Headland, seconded by Mr. Greenfield, it was resolved that the report of the Sub-Com-mittee on the management of the Home should stand over, and that Mr. Hesketh should be instructed to prepare the returns asked for in reference to the oost to the institution of each individual. Accounts to the amount of LBB were passed for payment, subject to the ap- [ proval of the Visiting Committee, and the meeting terminated,
