DISTRICT COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before His Honor District Judsre Ward. CRIMINAL SITTING. CONCEALMENT OF BIRTH.
RebeccaDocherty was arraigned charged with having endeavored to conceal the birth of a child at Papakaio. Mr. White, of Timaru, prosecuted for the Crown, and Mr. Hislop appeared for the defence. The prisoner pleaded guilty. Counsel for the prisoner having called evidence as to character, then addressed the Court in brief but feeling terms in mitigation of the sentence.
His Honor, in passing sentence, hoped that the position in which prisoner was placed would be a warning to her, and regretted that he could not have in the dock the man who had brought her to shame. He then sentenced her to three mouths' imprisonment.
IN BANKRUPTCY.
Re William Lee, Mr. O'Meagher applied for the bankrupt's order of discharge. Application granted. Re G. W. Draper, Mr. O'Meagher applied for an orcter for payment of costs on the debtor's estate. Order granted as prayed. Re Alexander Stevenson ana re James Dunn, Sir. Hislop applied for and obr. tained orders for payment of costs out of iheae estates.
