THE TIMARU BREAKWATER.
Timaku, June 3. At-the Harbor Board to-day, the. following resolution was passed:—" That this Board affirms Mr. Blackett's report to be one-sided, garbled, and inaccurate, and its conclusions false, and are prepared to bring rebutting evidence thereof." Mr. Hall, in the course of his remarks, stated that before the breakwater commenced, the telegraph line had to be twice shifted inland owing to encroachments of the sea. The opinion of Mr. M'Gregor, engineer to the Oamaru harbor works, was received, stating that he believed no serious damage would be likely to acgru? to the railway works. A telegram was read from Mr. Wakefield. M.H.R., to the effect that he had interviewed the Minister for Public Works, and stating that the Board need have no fears as to Mr. Blackett's report being acted on, but that the railway line would most probably be altered. A committee was appointed to draw up a reply to Mr. Blackett's statements. It was re* solved to at once call for for the construction of about 600 feet of wharfage inside the breakwater.
