NORTH OTAGO COURSING CLUB.

The second meeting of the season of the North Otago Coursing Club commenced to-day under far moro favorable auspices than did the previous meeting. Tho weather was beautiful for coursing, andthbrewtis a very fair number of sportsmen present"to witness the events. The meeting commenced on tho Awamba estate, at the junction of the White Itocks road. Hares were very although the ground gone over prevented them being caught, tho ground being for the most' part ploughed V fields.

The first pair in tho slips were M"aori and Banshee. After a lohg walk a liara was sighted, but owing to the long grass; the dogs did not get a good view of it. They were slipped and went away at a. rattling pace, the black dog in the rear. The hare proved too much for them however, aind the judge decided it a no course. The dogs were again placed in the slips, and after a very sharp and decisive course Banshee proved the winner. Skating Girl and Sam Slick were the next pair coupled, and a long gruelling course took place, both dogs working splendidly, Mr. Stewart's slut having the best of it, although the dog worked .well, and had he not turned a complete somersault when after the hare, perhaps tho result, would have been different. Encore and First King were the next pair, and a capital slip was effected, Encora going first up to the hare. First King then got in, and some really pretty work was done. Encore, however, scored by far the most points, and the oourse waa decided in her favor. Carnation and Camelia were slipped to a fine hare, but a very short course ensued. Carnation led up and collared the hare, but let it go. ,ftlr.. Ronayne's Qamelia then got in and scorecl a number of points, the judge declaring the course in her favor. Fly and Wheel of Fortune came next, and it waa not long before a. hare was started, Fly leading up and doing most work. Tho judge awarded the course to Fly, A beautiful course then to place between Chevy Chase and Tois Tois, The dogs were slipped to a strong hare, and they worked very evqnly —first one getting in and then.the other, The judge, however, decided in favor of the fawn dog. Ledgerkeeper and Chester were then slipped, the former doing a long oourse on his own account, Chester not sighting tho hare. It was therefore deoided a no course. The next pair in the slips wero Vagabond and Don Carlos. The white and black dog led from the slips, but Don Carlos soon got in and won easily. Tho next course was between Miranda and Hook, the former going right off from tho slips and winning a very easy run, Jeannette and Crackshot then ran a short course, the latter; winning, Bruce ran a bye, but Bruce not making sufficient; points tlie judge decided that it should bo run over again. In the run off between Ledgerkeeper and Chester, Ledger had much the best of it. Chester almost came to a standstill on going.up a hil), although previous to coming to "the hill he had done some good work } but taking the course a,U through, not one person on the ground had the slightest doubt of Ledger's superiority, Bruoe then ran a hye.
