A crowded meeting of miners was held at Dillmanstown last night, in consequence of the contractors for the Kumara sludge channel reducing the wages to 9s per day. The meeting was very orderly, although strong opinions were'expressed against the reduction. The following resolution vvas carried unanimously, " Owing to the exceptional nature of the weather and the cost of living in the district, it is the opinion of the meeting that the reduction in the current rate of wages which has lately taken place at one of the public works here is unjustifiable and most injurious to the inhabitants." The Waikato Times denies, on the authority of the New Zealand Herald, the statement that Rewi made a speech saying that' he withdrew his lands from the control of the king, also the Herald's statement that Rewi will not take possession of the house built for him by the Government at Kihi-kihi, until the Crown grant be handed to him.
