AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS. Messrs. Fleming and Hedley report the aale, on account of the executors in the estate of John Robertson, of the stock, plant, and produce, at Mount Pleasant. There was a very large attendance, as is generally the case at unreserved sales. All the lots submitted found purchasers at enhanced values. There was a good deal of animation throughout the sale, which proves that confidence and a better feeling have again set in. The good horses sotd well, as they were well known to be good and thorough workers. Prices ranged from Lol to Los for mare 3 in foal to "Vanquisher and Glenlyon; 140 to LSO for young mares and geldings ; and L3O to L4O for aged; hacks, from LlO to L_1 2 10a. The farming plant sold at very satisfactory rates. The freehold land at Whitatone fetched the good round price of L 25 per acre. The growing on the land sold at from 25s to 2Ss per ton at Whitstone Siding. Potatoes, grown at Mount Pleasant, fetched from 27s 6d to 30s per ton, de ivered in town. At these rates about 300 tons were sold. Carrots sold at 27s 6d per ton, on the ground, but the vendor has to pull them. Cows in full milk were in demand, and commanded extreme rates ; fair to good, Lll to 1,13 ; inferior, from LG 10s to LlO ; yearlings, from L 3 10s to L 4 ; second oats sold at 4s Id per bag ; bags, Sd- On account of Mr. George Aikenhea i they sold nbont 150 tons of mangolds at an average of 14s per ton ; and carrots at 28s per ton. The attention of dairymen is directed to the sale of prime dairy cows, at John M "Kay's yards, on "Wednesday next. Mr. A. H. Maude reports having sold by auction to-day section 10, block 7S, Oamaru Town, for the sum of LIOS cash. WELLINGTON. [r.T TELEGRAM. I May 12. Messrs. DUNEDIN MARKETS
Mir. Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports sis follows for the week ending May 12:— Fat cattle were in good supply at Bnrnside to-day, when L2SQ were yarded, only a small number of which were prime. The demand for medium and inferior was languid, bot that for best quality was good. Bullocks fetched from LG 15s to Ll3, and cows Lo 5s to L 6 10s per head. We disposed of drifts on account of Messrs. .J. M. Joarnach, "William Shand, and Samuel Garforth (of Canterbury - ), that on account of the last named consisting of 24 head of very prime •well-bred bullocks, which realised full prices, ■the ranqe being from LO ITsGdtoLll los per head. We quote prime 22s Gd to 2os; and medium quality, ISs to 20s per 100 lbs. Fat C'alvca. —Only 11 head w. re brought forward, which sotd at 2._>3 to per head. Fat Sheep.—2Go2 were penned, of which TOO were stores. The latter were sold at .">3 6d to 4s 9d per head. The market was good, and last week's prices were fnlly maintained. C'ross-breda sold for from 9s Gd to -and merinos from Ss Gd. U e sold two small drafts on account of Messrs. T. Davidson, Matanra, and W. 11. Milter, Manuka Creek. Quotations for prime mutton may be given as fully 2 : |d per lb. Fat Lambs. —50 were disposed of at 9s to i? 3 9d, according to size and condition. Store Cattle are not in very good demand sA present. We Teport sales of 200 head of mused cattle at fair prices. Store Sheep are in great demand, but not ■obtainable.
Wo«l. —We are glad to observe by telef;am3 of the daily progress of the sales in ondon that the market was resuming a firmer aspect, and hope that further advices will show completely restored confidence and a return to the improvement which was reported during the earliest days of the present aeries. Sheepskins.—At onr weekly auction on jMonday we offered a large catalogue. There ■WJO3 a good attendance of buyers and fatr eompetition. bat prices showed some decline On those of previous week. The following were the quotations obtained :—Butchers' akins—merino, la Od to 2s 3d ; cross-bred, la 5d to 3s ; fnll-woolled skins, up to 4s 7d ; station skins in bates, up to Gld per lb; lambskins, Is Gd to 3s each. Hides. —We have disposed of considerable (parcels at prices quoted in our last—3 t M per libjtor wet salted, and 20a each ior butchers' •green hides. TaSow. The market is nnehanged. "Transitions have taken placa at 25a per lewt. for good, and 16s for rough fat. Grain. —Wheat is dull of sate, the rates of last week being barely supported, as the for shipment has diminished, and millers are smalt purchasers at present. We ■qnote 4s as the nominal top price for the rvery best samples of milling wheat, and '2s 6ct to 3s for fowl feed. Oats : Sales have ibeen made at la "d to Is -Id for feed oats, S«t the inqniry is very limited. For milling 2s 5d may be quoted ; the demand is, howbat slack. Barley: For malting the tffwfest that can be obtained is 3s lid, and we fair quality at 3s. The tendency is downward.
