LI! 5s to LI L lOs ; sharps, 80s to 80s ; bran, 75a to SOs ; oats, Is lid to 2a Id ; potatoes, 60s to 65s for prime, bags included; ham 3 and bacon, lid to llju equal aorta. CHRJSTCHURCH. (by telegraph.) May 6. The grain market is still inactive. Wheat the week's transactions call for no especial comment. Good samples arc quoted at 3s 6d to 3a S<3, and seed parcels a tnilc more. The quantity touched with rust offering is considerable, and for these no more than 33 Id to 3s 3d is obtainable. Chick wheat is tolerably abundant, and ranges from 2s 2d to 3s, according to sample. Oats No improvement or chance of better feeling ****** be noted in this cereal. Many bolders instead of threshing are cutting up for feeding purposes. For good stout oats, feeding quality, large lots and where sales are pressed, Is 2d to Is 3d is offered ; best descriptions, Is 4d to Is sd. Tartara are not so saleable at this moment, unless fit for seed purposes. Barley—The samples brought forward daily without finding an outlet are numerous. Unless of undeniable quality, sales are difficult to effect. The prospects of relief from outside sources continue remote. Flour millers report a good business at late rate 3. Potatoes have been sold more freely since our last report at 27s 6d to 30s. Grass seed—We cannot report any change either in the demand or prices for rye grass. Dairy produce —Cheese, 4d to sd. The supply 13 more than equal to the demand. Sutter is wanted at SAd to 9d; honey, 3Jd to 4<L Business has not been very brisk in the stock market this week. There was a drop of Is per head in sheep, and mutton is quoted at 2d per lb; beef, 20s for best quality, 17s 6d inferior, per lOOlbs. TIMARU. (From to-day's Herald.) The usual monthly fair was held at Winchester on Wednesday, and notwithstanding the very unfavorable state of the weather the attendance both of buyers and sellers was the best that has been known, wiit the quantity of stock the largest that Ti»« ever been submitted at this fair. The bidding throughout was animated and brisk, and the prices realised very satisfactory. 8000 sheep and 160 head of cattla were yarded, as well as a few horses. Appended is a list of the various lots sold and the prices obtained : Messrs. Maclean and Stewart sold—lsoo 4-bred lambs, at 6s ; 1000 J-bred lambs, 6s ; 500 fat ewes, Ss sd; 14(30 2, 4, 6, and Stooth, at an average of 7s 3d : £OO merino ewes, 4a 3d ; 600 2-tooth ewes ar.d wethers, Ss ; long-wool rams, from 15s to 34s ; culls, from 2» 4d to 3s 3d ; 200 cross-bred ewes, Gs lOd ; 260 merino ewes, 4s 9d ; 160 crossbred 2-tooth, 5s lid; and 2000 merino ewes, 4a 7d. Messrs. Jonas, Hart, and Wfldie sold— Merino ewe.', from 4< 6d to 4s lid. Cattle : Calves, yonn.£f, at L2 5s ; IS months to 2 years old, L3~los to L 4 5s : steers, in good condition, nearly beef, from L 4 15s to L 5. Messrs. Maude 1 1 and Co. sold—l cow, ill; 1 2-year-old heifer, L 4 2s 6d; S3-year-old steers, at L 6; 2 springing cows, IS and LlO ; 5 2-year-olds, L2 15s; and 25 sheep, Ss. Mr. K. F. Gray sold—Fat cattle, from L 6 to LIO; stores, from L 3 5s to L 5. Four hundred old merino ewes were disposed of privately at 4s 7d.
