OTEPOPO ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board wa3 held on Friday, the 30th ulfc. Present— Messrs. Falconer (Chairman), Henderson (Treasurer), Mitchell, A. Marshall, Ross, Ketchin, and Anderson. The minutes of last meeting were read, and on the motion of Mr. Henderson, seconded by Mr. Marshall, adopted. The outward correspondence wa3 read and approved. The Engineers reported that they had inspected the Breakneck Bridge, and found that no danger was likely to arise from floods, provided the water table drains were kept clear along the upper aide of side catting, and especially where the old track joins the new road at the bottom of the hill.—The report was adopted. Latters were read from Messrs. F. E. Eley and Henry Swallow re a deviation of road at section 37, block Vlii. —The Clerk was instructed to inform them that the Board is not in a financial position to entertain the proposol, bat if at any future time a necessity for the deviation should arise the Board will be glad to accept the terms. The Secretary to the Treasury forwarded a form of return in which to fill in the amount of general rates collected for the year ended March 31st, 1880. The following tenders were opened : Contract No. 80.—James Hill, Ull IOs; Thomas Wright, LB7 16s; Hugh Robinson, Ll6llßs, Mr. Marshall moved, and Mr. Anderson seconded, that the lowest tender be occepted.—Carried. Contract No. 83. Hugh Robinson, LIB2 Is; John Counihan, Ll3O ; Thomas Weight, L 96 10s Id; James Hill, LlO9 4a; Collins and Co., L 135 23. Mr. Mitchell proposed that no tender be accepted, which was seconded by Sir. Anderson. Mr. Henderson moved as an amendment that the lowest tender be accepted. Seconded by Mr. Marshall. On being hot to the meeting, the amendment was carried by 5 to 2. On the motion of Mr. Ketchin, it was decided "not to accept tenders for contracts 84 and 85.

The following members retire:—Allday, Mr. A. Marshall; Chelsea, Messrs. Dar-1 jock, Falconer, and Mitchell; Copmanhurst, Mr. Biehl; Sydney, Mr. Henderson. The following members were appointed Returning Officers :—Allday, Mr. Adam Anderson; Chelsea,Mr. M'Donald; Copmanharst and Sydney, Mr. Ross. Mr. Ketchin tendered his resignation as A member of the Board, which wa3 accepted, Mr. Mitchell moved that the County Council be requested to take over as County roads, first, the beach road leading from the Waianakarua to Kakanni; and, second, about twenty chains more or less of the road leading south from the Kafcanui bridge. This was seconded by Mr. Boss and carried. Two accounts were passed for payment, and, on the motion of Mr. Boss, a vote of thanks to the Chairman ended the meetfa?-
