PRESENTATION TO MR. E. HEWAT.

Mr. Ebenezer Hewat, who has for more than two years held the position of second assistant in the Oamaru High School, was yesterday presented with a handsome, well-furriished writing desk, the gift of hispupils andfellow teachers. The Rector, in making the presentation, spoke of the high estimation in which he held Mr. Hewat as a teacher, and applauded his resolution to advance his rank in the profession by a further attendance at the University. The upper school,—both boys and girls—who have nearly all been under Mr. Hewat, at one time or another, cheered him most heartily when he returned thanks, which he did in a very suitable manner. The Cadets who were drawn up under the command of the Captain, also gave him " three times three" on his retiring from the lieutenancy,
