AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.
Mr. A. H. Maude reports the sale by auction on the 17th April of 9 subdivisions of Hec . J, Block 1., Oamaru District. The area sold was slightly under 14 acre and the total price realised wa3 £507. He also reports the sale, by private contract, of the remainder of lease of sec. 14, Block XXV., Oamaru Town (subject to a sub-lease of the front half of above seetion( for £l5O cash. Mr. George Greenfield reports that he submitted to-day, at his mart, Thames-street, several freehold properties in this town. The attendance was large, but the bidding was not very brisk. Freehold sections 13 and 14, block 45, and Educational section 9, mm. block, with seven-roomed house, bathroom, out-hou3es, &c., was knocked down to the Rer. Father Coleman for the sum of tjots The other properties submitted were all passed in, not reaching the vendor's reserves.
DUNEDIN MARKETS.^ Mr. Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loon and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports as follows for the week ending April 28 : Fat Cattle. —106 head were yarded at Barnside to-day. The demand wa3 fairly good, and last week's prices were about maintained. Bullocks sold at from Ls7s6d to LlO 12s 6d per head, and cow 3 atL4 7s 6d to L 7 ss. We quote prime beef, 22a 6d per 1001b. " Eat Sheep were in very full supply, 3SIO having been penned. Cross-breds, of which the greater part consisted, realised from Ss 3d to 13s; and merinos, 9s 3d per bead. There were, in addition, about 1000 morino stores, which sold at from 2s 6d to 4s 9d. The demand was sufficiently active to clear the market, but a decline on last week's prices to be submitted to. We placed, on account of Mr. Edward Swallow, IS3 head at prices ranging up to 10s 9d; and on account of Mr. Henry Elston, 99 head at 8s 9d. Prime mutton may be quoted fully ljd per lb. Fat Lambs. —103 were penned, which sold at 8a 6d to 10s 3d, according to size and quality. We disposed of 41 head, on account of Mr. Elston, at Ss 6d to 9s. Store Sheep.—We have buyers for a large number of store sheep, both merinos and cross-breds, which we are unable to snpply. We have placed 1000 full-mouthed merino Wool.—A careful inspection of priced catalogues of the February London auctions fnlly confirms the favorable advices previously received by telegraph. As already Indicated, the improvement upon December rates was moat conspicuous in the case of combing merino ami cross-bred wools, consequent chiefly upon Continental and American demand. The returns from these sales must be highly gratifying to shippers. We have received the following telegram from our London office respecting the second aeries, now in progress: —"The sales opened •with spirit on the 20th inst. at an average advance of Id to on previous sale prices. The opening catalogue contained SSOO bales, and the sales will comprise abont 350,000 bales. 30,000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. Competition by both Home and Foreign buyers i 3 active, although trade in the manufacturing districts is not so good. Continental markets are lightly stocked. The advance in prices since last sales may be quoted as follows: — Greasy and clothing washed, Id per lb; combing washed, 2u ; scoured, Id to lAd ; cross-bred, superior greasy and superior combing washed, Ad to Id per lb. For lambs' wool the market is unchanged. The soles will close on 12th Jane, and the next series will commence on 17th August.'* Other telegrams report cross-bred a3 ruling at about February prices, but all accounts concur in recording continued firmness in the market. At our sale on Monday we cleared a few lots of greasy wool at full prices, namely:—Ben Ohou, 3 bales fleece, 9jd ; do, 2do pieces, 9jd j ao, Ido dingy, 7Jd; Gin circle, Ido merino, 9sd; V in diamond, 1 do fleece, II Jd; do, I do part pieces, 7d ; do, 1 bag locks, 3d; C'2. 4 do fleece, at 6|d; and p eces 4Jd per lb. Sheepskins.—We offered a large catalogue on Monday, acd with good competition cleared the whole at satisfactory prices. « Butchers' cross-bred skins fetched Is lid to 3d 6d ; merinos, is 3d to 23 5d ; station fulli'Pwoolied skins np to si; lambskins, Is sd to 2s sd.
Hides.—The demand continues unabated at oar last week's quotations of 20s each for batchers' green hides, and 3J<l per lb for I wet-salted. ' Tallow. —Wc report sales ap to 25s for fair quality j roagh fat may be quoted at 16s per ewi. Grain.—Wheat is in full supply, and values lately current are scarcely 3nstained. In the absence of demand quotations would be only nominal. Oats : Purchases for shipment have been made at Is 4d per basheL For local consumption the demand is very poor, and there i no inclination on the part of buyers to purchase beyond temporary requirement*. Small parcels of feed oat 3 have changed hands at Is 3d to Is 4d for fair to I good, which is the highest price obtainable i for this description. Fine milling samples might realise Is 5d to Is 6d, but the demand is very limited. Barley :We qnote malting at from 3s to- 33 £>d per bushel—the latter quotation for the finest samples, but business passing i 3 to a very limited extent. For milling there is scarcely any demand; we quote 2a Vd to 3a per bushel.
