ENTERTAINMENT AT AWAMOKO.
Last evening one of the most successful entertainments that have ever been held, in this district was given at Awamoko. Entertainers and listeners congregated from Livingstone, Duutroon, Teaneraki, Oamaru, and all the oountryside, and the well-constructed schoolhouse was crowded so that temporary seats had to be brought into requisition. The Rev. Mr. Stevens (who occupied the chair) opened the meeting by congratulating the people of the district on the excellence of their school accommodation, 0e said he hoped that it would soon be quite inadequate to the requirements of the district, that the bachelors would soon change their condition, and that their dwellings would bulge out with children. With regard to the entertainment, the audience might feel quite assured that, as the committee had asked hint} to preside, every item on the programme would be enjoyable and proper, and quite devoid of anything calculated to bring a blush on a maiden's cheek. He then introduced the programme, which was as follows :

We must not omit to state that Mr. Wilson kindly lent his piano for the occasion, that the visitors were well cared for by IVIr. Peter Aitchison and Mr. A.nderson, both of whom were exceedingly kind and hospitable, and: that the music for the dancers was supplied by Mr. Johnston, of Papakaio, an expert performer upon the celestial instrument. Everybody will be glad to learn that the proceeds amount to about L2Q.
