THE ENGLISH MARKETS.
' (by cable.) Wellington-, April 24. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agencj Co. report as follows : London, April 11. The wool sales opened with spirit on the 20th inst., at an advance of Id to l£d on the last sale prices. The opening catalogue contained 8500 bales, and the sales comprise about 380,000 bales. 30,000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing distiiots. .Buyers are active, but trade in the manufacturing distriots is not so good. The. Continental markets are lightly stocked. The following have advanced since olose of last sales:—Greasy, Id per lb; clothing (washed), Id; combing (washed), 2d; scoured, ljd; and cross breds, superior greasy and superior combing (washed £d to Id. For lambs wool the market is unchanged. THe sales will close on June 12th. The next series will commence on the 17th August. Tallow is dull of sale. Best mutton is quoted at 83s 6d per cwt., and best beef at 325. The wheat market is flat. Adelaide is worth 54s and New Zealand 52s per 496 lbs.
