COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
DtTN'EDIN MARKETS. Mr. Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loon, and Mercantile Agency Company, limited) reports as follows for the week ending April 14th : Fat Cattle. —The moderate supply of 122 head was yarded, but owing to the large purchases of last week butchers were not anxious to buy,, and there was accordingly bat little competition. Beat bullocks brought up to L 9 Ts t>d, or not more than 20s per IQOtb for prime quality. We sold 25 head at yards, and have placed SO privately at quotations. Fat Calves.—None forward.
Fat Sheep.—A mediurnsupply of lOTfiwas penned. Bidding was very languid, owing to the trade being fully stocked from recent purchases. Beat croas-breds brought from 9» to 12a.; merinos, 8a 6d to Ss 9d—or equal to about 2d per lb tor prime mutton. Fat Lambs.—lo*2 came forward, and all sold at 6a 9d to 8s 9d each. Store Cattle. —There is a fair inquiry for well-conditioned cattle, but few iota are changing hands. Store Sheep.—The demand still continues, but scarcely any lota are now to be obtained. Wool.—Local transactions have been limited. For the small tots disposed of previous rates were obtained. We quote telegram from our London office, dated 6th April:—"There has been considerable private inquiry, but holders demand higher rates. Up to date 250,000 bates have arrived."" We shall offer some tots ot" variona descriptions on Monday next, the 19th inst. Sheepskins.—At our auction on the_l2th we offered a good-sized catalogue. With a good attendance and fair competition we_diaposed of every lot at aatistactory prices, full-woolled half-breds fetching up to 5s Sd, and merinos up to 4s. Lambs' realised 2a 7d, and butchers' green skins from Is lid to 2s d. Hide9.--Pem.ind continues good, and well-conditioned lots of butchers* green hidi-s are readily saleable at 20s each, and wet-salted at per lb. Tallow is in fair request, but the supply is limited. We quote up to 2tia per cwt. for well rendered parcels. Grain.—Wheat: There i 3 only a very moderate inquiry for prime milling, and we doubt whether over 4a per bushel could be secured for the choicest samples, as millers are holding back from purchases in expectation of lower prices. In fowls' feed the demand is better, and we quote 23 6d to 33 3d per huahel. Oats are without the slightest improvement, and arrivals are being stored, the inquiry being only for the supply of pressing needs. Quotations would, therelore, be only., nominal. Barley : Several parcels of fair malting have been placed at 3s fri ; the tendency, however, is in buyers' favor. For milling we quote 3s, at about which transactions have taken place, but the consumption is small.
