TIMARU RACES. [by telegraph.] Timaru, April 8. Timaru Cup, 200 sovs. Mr. Fraser's br g Betrayer, 3 yrs, 7st 81b 1 Mr. Goodman's b m Titania, 6 yrs, 7st 61b 2 Mr. Mason's br g Camballo, aged, 9at 41b ... 3 | Luna and Marie Antoinette also ran. Mata was soratched. Betting—7 to 4 against Betrayer, 2to 1 Titania, 5 to 2 Camballo, 5 to 1 Luna, 6 to 1 Marie Antoinette. This race oreated a great deal of excitement, as it was evident the money would have to be properly gone for. After several false starts, owing to the fractiousness of Marie Antoinette and Luna, Mr. Sfcansell sent the lot away well together, Luna was the first to show in front, and soon obtained a fair lead, followed by Marie Antoinette, Titania, Betrayer, ana Camballo in the order named, all tailed out. This order was maintained down the straight and until the stand was passed for the first time. Coming opposite the stand, Titania ran into first place, the others remaining in their respective order. Betrayer shortly afterwards went up, and 00 entering the straight held the lead, witH Titania close up, and Camballo a bad third, A grand race down the straight ensued, Betrayer eventually catching the judge's *bye a length before Titatia, Camballo, four lengths away, being third, Marie Antoinette fourth, and Luna fifth. Time, 3min. 4sec. Titania's jockey entered a protest against Betrayer, on the ground of Clark crossing him at the top of the pom-ae and throwing oqt of his stride, but its was not upheld by the stewards,
Flying Handicap, 50 aova. Mr. Cutts'b g Mata ... ... ... 1 Mr. Goodman's ch m Tera 2 Mr. Derenzy's b h Huntingdon ... 3 Twelve horses had entered for this event, but only the three mentioned came to the post. The betting was all in favor of Mata, to whom the race was considered a gift. A selling hack of LJ.Q, fqr which nine hqrseq QnterecJ, 'was won by Mr. Goodman's Alnja, and concluded the clay's proceedings. TO-DAY'S RACES. The racecourse to-day was moderately patronised. The weather was clhudy and threatening, but no rain fell. S C.J.C. Handicap, 100 sovs. Mata ... ... ... ... 1 Betrayer ~, 2 Titania ~, ~, 3 Yaluuteer and Tera alao ran, Mata won by half a length.
