ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU MAIL. Sib t —Some seventy or eighty of as unemployed men have called here to-day to see if we could get work on the Livingstone-Windsor Railway. We were informed by the manager that he had no authority to give us work, bat at the same time told as if we went to Mullocky Gaily we woald get work there. Now, Mr. Editor, a great number of us are married men, and we have no mean 3 to take us sooth of Donedin to look for work. We were induced to come here last winter, and we have made an attempt to settle down, but we find we have no means, to support ourselves, unless the Government open work for us immediately. We held a meeting, and resolutions were passed to hold a meeting of the unemployed in Oamaru shortly. Such meetings have been held in Dunedin and Chriatchurch, and why should not Oamaru try to get its share of the works as well. If something is not done before long we shall starve for the want of employment. We were trusting to our local members. We thought that they might look after the interests of the working men of Oamaru. Now we 33k them in our hour of need to urge on the Government to start the public works again, and give us a means of making a livelihood. Sir, by inserting the above you will greatly oblige.—l am. &c., UinatrLorED.
