It may be remarked that Invei cargilibeingsitnated close-to Foveaux Strait is exposed to more rainfall and sudden chauge t r hnn the interior of the district, only seve: miles dne north, where the climate is bot drier and warmer, but along the whole sea board the land is extremely fertile, and mue prized for grass and root crops. The experi ence of the last few years leads to the con viction that for all-round agriculture th supply of rain by no means exceeds the re quirements of the land. This year th thermometer at Invercargill has average higher than any part of tbe Middle Island and most parts of the Ntrth Island, whil there has baen very considerably less rain fall than in any part of the Colony.
