The following is a statement showing the amount of Customs duties collected at the port of Oamaru from the Ist to the 31st day of March ; £ 9. d.
WELLINGTON. [BV TELEaRAFH.] March 31. Laery and Campbell sold this day, at their market sale -Nelson apples, 6a Pd to Sa fid ; fresh butter, 11W ; salt batter, 5d to 7d ; onions. Li> to. LS per ton ; potatoes, L 3 to L 3 ss; chaff, L 5 per ton ; cheese, 6d. DUNEDIN MARKETS. Mr. Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan anil Mercantile Agency Company, limited) reports as follows for the week ending March 31st:— Store Cattle—There is a fair demand. We have disposed of 400 head privately. We snail offer tomorrow (Thursday) at the Mosgiel Yards 130 head of very superior cattle, consisting of bullocks' and spayed cow 3, from the West Plains Estate. Fat Calves—l 4 were yarded, and disposed of at from 6s to 29a per hsad, according to size and condition. Fat Lambs. —For ICS head offered there was brisk competition, and they were disposed of at from 8a 3d to 9* fid per head. At the latter quotation we sold a draft on account of Mr. ifV tlKam Shand. Sheepskins.—At onr sale of yesterday we cleared a moderate catalogue at satisfactory prices. Merino skins fetched up to 4s 3d, and cross-breds up to 5s fid. Messrs. Maclean and Co. report : Fat Cattle.—l»B came forward for this week's supply, including some really prime and heavy cattle. Bidding throughout was slack, prices showing no alteration. Best bullocks, heavy weights, brought from L 9 to HI 17s fid: others, L 6 lOs to LS 7s; best cows, up to LI I; others, Lssato LS 10s—or equivalent to say, 22s fid per lOOlbs for prime, 20s for medium quality. Grain.—Wheat—We qnote prime milling at 4s 3d to 4s 4d ; medium, 3s lOd to 4s ; fowl feed, which is in demand and very scarce. 3a 3d to 3a 6d. oat3—Old oats are scarce and in demand for feed. Good samples would command, say. Is Sd ; new crop, Is 3d to Is fid for prime milling, and Is 3d to Is 4d for feed. The demand for new feed is limited. Barley—' he market is fully supplied, and only really prime malting is saleable at from 3a 9d to 4s.
Donald Reid & Co. reports : Fat Sheep—2l66 were penned to-day, of which MOO were little better than stores. Consequently prime mutton was aetive'y competed for, and showed an advance of 2s pur nead on late quotations, while inferior quality was neglected and difficult of sale at rolnced rates. Heavy -weight crossbreds realised op to 14a 3d ; ordinary 9s 9d to 10s fid. Oar sales consisted of 300 at quotations. We quote button at 2d per ib.
