EXPORTATION OF FROZEN MEAT.

A Mr. A. W. Bucknell writes a letter to the "Sydney Morning Herald" of the sth March upon the exportation of frozen meat, in which he states that it is proposed to erect large cooling-rooms at Glebe Island, fitted'with the Bell-Cole- i man apparatus, in which to store 10,000 bodies of beef and 50,000 sheep. "It being very deep water at Glebe Island, the large ocean-going steamers can lie alongside the cooling-rooms and load, and the fact of a large quantity of meat being always in store will be a guarantee that the vessels will not be delayed in loading, and it is thought will induce their owners to make the necessary preparations before leaving London. Below is a calculation by which it will be seen that after adding 50 per cent, to the present value of fat stock, a return of at least cent, per cent, might be reasonably hoped for on an outlay of LIOO,OOO : Beef—A bullock of 7001b—Selling price in London, 4§d per lb, LIS 2s 66.; value of hide and tallow, LI 10s—L14 12s 6d ; cost here, adding 50 per cent, to present value, LG ; freight, lid per lb, L 4 7a 6d ; expenses, say LI 10s —Lll 17s 6d ; profit, on each bullock, L2 15s. Sheep : Say o6lb wether, in London, at sd, LI 3a 4d ; skin and fat, (low average), Si Bd—Ll 7s; cost here, (adding much to present value), 10s; freight, lid—7s ; expenses, say 3s—Ll ; profit on one sheep, 7a. 500 bullocks per week, L 1375 ; 5000 sheep per week, L 1750 —L 3125. Deducting L 1125 for possible contingencies, the profit stated above would still remain." j
