RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAY. : (Before T. W. Parker, Esq., R.M. DISORDERLY CONDUCT. Samuel Love and Thomas Yates were charged with having last evening conducted themselves in Coquet Street in a manner calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. Evidence having been taken, his Worship fined each defendant 20s with the option of going to gaol for three days. ASSAULT. David Dunn, charged with having assaulted Alexander-Patersori in Thames Street, last evening, was fined 4Qs, with the alternative of six days imprisonment with hard labor, drunkenness. Cornelius Sweeney, for having been drunk and disorderly in Eden Street early this morning, was ordered to pay a'fine of 5s or to go to gaol for 24 hours. v BREACH OF THE LICENSING ACT. , ■ Philip Holmes Blakesley was oharged with having on the 11th October, 1879, sold five gallons of beer to one Annie Davis without being duly licensed under the Licensing Act: Mr. Newton, who appeared for the defence, stated that the defendant admitted having sold the beer. . In fact he had sued in the Court for .the. recovery of the price of: the beer, and in this manner the sale of the beep had oome to the knowledge of Inspector Thompson, who, of course, had been compelled to take some action to vindicate the law. Mr. Blakesley had sold the beer under a misapprehension. The beer sold was that of Messrs. Lintott and Qtterson. It was sold in their cask, prepared on their premises, and delivered by their man; and Mr. Blakesley had thought that he ..could sell under the license held by Messrs. Lintott and Otterson. He did not know what course the Inspector intended to take, but he thought, under the circumstances, the case might be withdrawn.. ■ Mr. Blakesley had already taken steps to get a license. Inspector Thompson said thst Mr. Newton had stated the of the case, and if Mr. Blakesley took out a license he would withdraw the caae.

His Worship adjourned the case until Monday,' on the understanding that if Mr. Blabesley took out a license in the meantime, the case would be withdrawn. ; . . NUISANCE. Patrick Dineen was by the Inspector of Nuisances with" having dirty water in hjs yard, and was fined LB.
