ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU MAIL. . ; Sir,—Permit me to insert a few lines in your paper. We surely have had a deal of talk of late about cattle going at large in and about Ngapara. If our ranger was to come in the night instead of the day he wquld surely get something for his trouble. Had I been the ranger last night I could have taken seven head of cattle, five horses, and two cows. One cow was on a tether only. For my part Mr. Payne has every reason to complain, for I saw six of the number eating the fence and reaching over into his garden ; in fact, I called my mate's attention to the trees. They are so damaged that if they were mine I would more than complain.—l am,&&o f Settler. 1
