TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU Sir,—As for " Phlox" I leave him to defend himself, and of this he is quite capable, but as " Weka" in to-day's issue of your dyspeptic contemporary kindly thinks me also worthy of attack, please - excuse my few words of comment. I admit my ire-arousing words " bile," " rot," &c., are not, perhaps, superfine Brussels-carpeted drawing-room syllables, 'but at ahyrate they are masculine, and what is more, appropriate. Certainly I have never laid myself out for being " a would-be champion of manners and education," as is asserted by ''^Weka." No, I leave that to him. and to his " weaker" crew (excuse the pun). But may I point out to your readers the extreme probability that "Weka" is a fictitious correspondent, that the letter pvei-'that signature is written either by the editor, or by one of his subordinates t

Well; between that time and your contemporary's going to press a few short hours only supervened, and it is not likely that therein one of the oatside public had prepared and conveyed tc its destination a long letter like " Weka's."
