He also won. the Clutha Ferry Handicap, beating Lady Ellen four others—distance, 2\ miles. He ran second to Backbiter for the Lawrence Town Plate- in 1871; and won the Publicans' Purse at latest performance was winning the Cromwell Spring Handicap (distance, 1 \ mile), easily, and he has also been victorious in many other events. Birdcatcher, Warlock, Daniel O'Rourke, Knight of St. George, and Songstress—all Derby and St. Leger winners in England. His grandson was sire of Stockwell, and grandsire of Blair Athol, Colleen, St. Albans, The Marquis, and Whalebone—embracing the representative of the purest and most successful racing strain of the present day. Bedouin's dam, Gunsara, is a dark brown, with blaok points, imported direct from Arabia, by Mr, A. Pilans, having been selected from the purest of the racing stock in the country. GOLDFINDER is a steel grey, with black points, staads 15 hands 3 inches high, is very powerfully made, and has nice symmetry of form, with splendid action. Goldfinder was bred by William Webb, Esq., of Riccarton, near Ohristchurch j is by the imported horse Quicksilver, out of Lady Margaret, by Wellington (imported); granddam Fanny, by Sir Hercules—Sir Hercules being the' progenitor of the New Zealand Turf, and long proclaimed and proved to be the best blood sire in ths Australian Colonies. Quicksilver was imported from England by J. W. Ladbrook, Esq., to Canterbury in 1864. He was bred by John Coker, Esq., Lynn, Norfolk, by PrickwiUow. His dam, a Phenomenon mare, the property of John Bond, Esq., Old Priokwillow, was the champion of all roadsters. GOLDFINDER has taken several first prizes as the best Hackney Stallion at some of the principal shows as a weight-carrier and roadster; his equal i 8 not in the Province. He is one of the best stock getters that ever travelled. His stock, like himself, show unmistakable signs of; being excellent trotters. NAPOLEON'S sire is that grand- old horse Emperor, the property o| Mrs. Nimmo, Taieri, that haa got nacre prige-takers than any other horae i&New Zealand. Heather Jock's stock in Victoria have taken First Prizes at the Grand National Shows in Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, and Kyneton, and at Agricultural Societies' Shows too numerous to mention. In New Zealand his stock have been equally successful. Mr. Menlove's HEATHER BELL, the Champion Mare of Victoria and New Zealand, is one of his daughters. His sire was the celebrated imported horse Blackleg (71 Scottish Clydesdale Stud Book), who won the Highland and Agricultural Society's Gold Medal in 1859, and the Champion, Prize at the Grand National Society's Show ! in Victoria. Blackleg won altogether 54 First and 2 Second Prizes. Princess Maude, the best mare tb,at ever left Scotland, was half-sister to Blackleg. Heather Jock's dam was Lily Cromwell, the winner of 13 First Prizes at Melbourne, Kynetou, Melton, Bacchus Marah, Castlemaine,. Gisborne, and Carisbrook. She was got by Old Cromwell (imp.). His grand-dam, was R. M'Dougall's mare Old Lily, by Grey Champion (imy,) Jock's great-grand-dam a, celebrated Clydesdale, mare imported) from Scotland.
