S James Ross was fined 10s. and William Stewart 20s. for having been drunk and disorderly. • XARCENY. ■ " John Madden was charged with having, at Oamaru on the 6th instant, stolen a gold watch and a hair guard of the value of L 6, three Ll-notes, and 10s. in silver from one Sarah Gorman, alias White. Inspector ; Thompson prosecuted, and prisoner, who was undefended, pleaded not guilty. For the prosecution, the evidence of Sarah Gorman, Amy Hamilton, ana Rachael 1 Haynes j three bad women, was takeny and showed that, while the prosecutrix was lying in bed, the accused came into the room, took her by the throat, and took away her watch and guard. 'He then went into the kitchen. Prosecutrix followed him, and asked for her watch. Prisoner denied having it, and following the woman into her room, thrust his hand into her pocket and took money amounting .to L 3 ;10s. On the prisoner being arrested arid 'searched the watch and guard were found lupon him. The prisoner was remanded until to'morrow. : ' - LUNACY. Julia Paul was brought up, on remand, upon suspicion of being of unsound mind. The gaol surgeon having notified that she was now sane, the accused was discharged.
