AUCTIONEER'S REPORT. Messrs. Connell and Clowes report that they held their monthly sale of sheepskins at their stores yesterday. There is no activity at present in products of any kind, the buyers waiting for the new- crop. Prime fat beef, 24a; mutton, ljd. AUCKLAND. [by txlegraph.] March 5. Oats still continue very low in value, and then appears no probality of improvement. Sales have taken place at Is 9d to Is lOd for large lines. Hops have been inquired for. A large line of Nelson of 1879, in fair con- 1 dition, was sold for Is 3d to Is 4d for export. ' A much less figure than that was previously -offend for the same lot. Potatoes are being poured into the market. It is difficult to place a line at even L 3. Cheese is overstocked, bat a first-class line of Canterbury has been sold at 7d. DUNEDIN MARKETS. Mr. Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New ■ Zealand Loan and 'Mercantile Agency Company, Limited! reports for the week ending 3rd March as follows Fat Cattle.—At the Bornside yards to-day the moderate supply of 169 head was brought forward, principally medium to good, but comprising a few prime. Butchers appear, however, to. have already gone well into stock,-sls the demand was only languid at .jirevious prices. We disposed of 16 head on -account ot Mr. William Shand at quotations -which may be given at 20s to Sis per 100 lb sbr medium, and 23s to 24s for prime. Fa* Calves.—Fourteen were yarded, which sold up to 25s per head, according to size and condition. Fat Sheep were in good supply, 2318 having been penned. Demand wa* fairly good, and prices showed a range of 7s 9d to lis per hea<£ On account of Messrs.. Little Bros., lElston; Shand, and Telford, we disposed of *6l3* at from 6s 3d to 10s, last week's prices Ibeing about sustained. We quote, a3 then, folly 13d per lb for prime mutton. Fat iambs.—4Bß were offered- Wj «oU a draft on account of Messrs. Shand and other* at from 6s 3d to 7s 3d, and turned eat aboat 100. Prices about the same as Store Sheep.—The demand for yonng ahee?, both merinos and crossbreds, continues very active, and much in excess of the supply. Wool.—Continued favorable advices from the London market have made holders very : firm, and such transactions as have transpired show late prices well maintained. We purpose holding our No. 5 sale at the Otago Wool Stores on Monday next, the Bth instant.
Sheepskins.—We cleared a catalogue at oar weekly sale on Monday at very satisfactory prices, especially for long-woolled skins, merinos and cross-bred* fetching np to 4s fOd each, and pelts up to Is sd. Hide*.—Market continues well supported .at previous Tallow is in request: Grain.—lnquiry is becoming somewhat tran'e active; •without, however, any notieetble alteration in quotations.
