LIVINGSTONE.

(from ouk own correspondent.) . ; February 26. At a meeting of the School. Committed held last week, the Committee, with a view to doing all they could-to help our local candidate for the Education Board, recorded a, plumper for Mr. Shrimski. Regret, was at the same time expressed that the same mode of votiug. does not apply in this, case as in elections for School Committees, in which case "any one votercould havescored three votes. At the same meeting the resignation, of the teacher was tendered and accepted, subject to the notice provided in the Education Act. , I notice the Board hava appointed Saturday,' the 6th March, as the time for the election of a Committee, the inhabitants having failed to eleot a Committee at the former meeting of householders held on the 26th January. I know the members of the old Committee do not intend seeking re-election/as they wish those who made so free a use of what is said to be the Englishman's privilege during the past year, to have a taste of the sweets of office.'. - Hitherto the attendance at annual school meetings has generally been very meagre ; so much so, that when scrutineers were appointed, only just sufficient to form a Committee were left in the room. There has rarely been any competition for the honor. This is not surprising, as there is-no pay attached to the office, little honor, and less thanks. The immunity from accident hitherto enjoyed by the miners at Maerewhenua has during the last few months received several rude shocks, no less than ; four persons having been hurt at their work, two of them so seriously that they are, it is feared, likely to be laid up for several weeks. The miners are beginning to feel the effects of the late dry weather in the shortness of their water supply. None of them, I believe, are able now to work more than half time, some not so much.
