They will leave by the express train to-day, having—thanks to Mr. John Keid, Mr. M'Master, and other chief settlers of this district—gleaned sufficient knowledge of this part of the Colony to cause them to appre ciate it as it deserves. Company are worthy of the. thanks .of those interested in the cause of "volunteering, and who is not. The Punedin races are, we understand, to occur on the 2Gth, 27th, and 2Sth insts. We would recommend that those of the public who desire to be present at the event should make representations to that effect to Mr. Hannay, with a view to having such train arrangements made that they would be able to return to Oamaru on the day on which they left. We feel'sure that Mr. Hannay would comply if the, number of applicants was sufficiently large to warrant him in doing so. He would probably arrange for the train which lea%:es Dunedin for Palmerston- at 5.15 to come right on to Oamaru, where it would arrive at about 10 p.m. Our Inch Valley correspondent writes, uinder date February 20, as follows Yesterday afternoon the" schoolmaster's youngest child, fifteen months old, narrowly escaped drowning in the mill race, which runs behind the school.
