The erection of a pound at Duntroon was ordered to stand over for further consideration. The Inspector's report, detailing the progress made upon various works, was read. The Inspector drew attention to the damage done by cattle grazing on the road from Oamaru to Kakanui harbor ; and on ! tlie motion of Mr. Duncan, it was resolved that the Solicitor be interviewed with the object of having a bye-law framed for the impounding of cattle on the beach road. It was resolved that the Inspector should give notice to all persons allowing gorse to spread on to any County road to have the same cleared within 30 days from the Ist April. Mr. Falconer moved, and Mr. Thomson seconded, " That "Mr. O'Meagher be requested, on behalf of the Council, to approve or otherwise of the appeal case of Peter Aitchison v. the Council." Mr. Murcott moved as an amendment that the Council should take no further action in the matter. This was seconded by Mr. Duncan, and carried. On the motion of Mr. Falconer, seconded by Mr. Thomson, the annual allowance of the Chairman was fixed at the same sum as for his predecessor, Ll5O. Accounts to the amount of L 744 18s 9d were passed for payment. Mr. Murcott gave notice to move at next meeting, " That the land fund derived from the sale of Crown lands in the County be divided between the ridings on the basis of the ratable property in each respective riding." The Council then rose.
