It is anticipated that fully 100,000 tons of grain will be shipped at Lyt-telton during the season, as against 40,000 last year.
GRAHAMSTOWN. February 6. Sir George Grey and the Hon. F. Whitaker having notified their intention to visit the Thames to-day, the local bodies have been much exercised as to how to receive both without offending either. The Borough Council met this morning and decided, as such, to give ,no reception! The Mayor, Mr. Ehrenfried,: proposed to take Sir George Grey in his carriage. • The Liberal Association, dis-; ti n'g-uished by bl lie breast knots, intended'; receiving Sir George' Grey, and'afterwards interview Mr. Whitaker. Sir George Grey speaks to-morrow night, when an address will be presented to him. His address is expected to be an attack upon the Government. i"* / -A brass band; with a deputation,-meets Sir George Grey on hi3_ landing. The County Council decided not to give a reception to either the Hon. F. Whitaker or' Sir George Grey. The townspeople are displaying bunting. The" feeling "is still intensely in. favor of Sir George Grey on the Thames. " '' NAPIER. February 4. The ram fair at Hastings to-day was very largely attended, but owing to the tightness of the money market, bidding, especially for the most valuable stock, was dull. TIMARU. February 5. At a meeting of the Harbor Board today, the annual report showed that the breakwater now extended 492 feet. The balance to the Board's credit is L 93,000, and the liabilities, including 350 feet contract recently commenced, L 21,800.
