THE WATERWORKS.
The following report from the Engineer was read at last night's meeting of the Municipal Council: — Oamaru, Engineer's Office, Feb. 5, 1880. To, His Worship the Major and Councillors. , Gentlemen, —I have the honor to report that all the finished work on the waterworks is in first rate order. The aqueduct at Hall's Gully will be completely finished by the beginning of next week. The head works are all that could be desired, and the supply of water ample in everyway. As there is no proper outlet for discharging the -water in the lower Papakaio district, I have in the meantime reduced the flow in the race below the Awamoko until the crops are taken off the ground. The various contractors for timber work are making very fair progress. At the resefvoi'rj also, the embankment and lower works are being well pushed through. If the race in Mr. Ross' paddock were cut through, the water could be let down to the Big Hill Creek at once. ' I have, &c., D. A. M'Leod, Engineer.
