PROVISION FOR EDUCATION IN OTAGO.
j The. members of the Education Board waited on Mr. Rolleston yesterday, 1 to bring before him the subject of the Board's fuuds. The sum of L17G,000 had been voted by Parliament for school buildings, but of this Otago had received only L 21,500. Their estimates .for the year showed that L 43,372 was required : for buildings, and ! as the attendance at the schools entitled' them to a large sum beyond what theyliad received, the dppu r tatipn hoped to receive from the Minister an assurance that such wpuld; be forth-. coming. Mr. Rolleston replied that the returns from. Otago and other had not yet c.omo in, .'and until they were re'-' ceived he could not say what Otago would receive,. ! that there were pressing wants. Of course, this amount did not apply to the present year. He hoped to bo able to remit thia to different destinations within a few weeks' time.
