Latest news from Afghanistan states that Ayoub Khan and Mahomed Jan have united, and intend to intrench near Ghuznee until strong enough to attack Cabul. • January 28. The Afghans in the Dhost district, are organising an expedition to attack Cabul. Reinforcements have been despatched. The Daily News asserts that the British native allies in South Africa are gently revolting, and have committed atrocities upon prisoners. The Northumberland has arrived in London. (special to the meltjourne ak«cs.) London, January 27. Teheran telegrams state that England and Persia have arranged that Persia in certain events shall occupy Herat. DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS. (keuteu's telegram, pur press association) Sydney, January 28. The Australian Eleven beat the New South Wales Fifteen by 75 runs. Sailed —Arawata, for New Zealand. Adelaide, January 29. During a ball last night on board the barque Excelsior, lying at the port, the crew made an unprovoked attack on the officers, who were engag'ed in the festivities. They used belayiug pins, marling spiks, and revolvers. The mate was fired at, but the shot missed. All the other officers were wounded more or less severely in the head, and the captain received a serious blow on the right temple. After a great struggle the mutineers were arrested, and will be charged at the police court to-day. (SPECIAL TO PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Melbourne, January 28. The mail steamer Assam anchored at 7 this evening. The Ringarooma, with the English mails, will leave at 10 on Thursday morning. The Government railway scheme proposes the construction of 410 miles at a total cost of L2,394,00Q.
