OAMARU HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above Committee was held last evening in Mr. Church's office, when there were present—Messrs. T. H. Brown (President], in the chair), Shrimski, Townsend, Montagu, Mainland, Kerr, Hassell, and Headland:' -The minutes of ; the previous meeting and of ; a special, meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. The Visiting Committee's report was read as. follows : Your Committee made, their ordinary i monthly inspection of the Hospital to-day, and have pleasure in bringing before your notice, as usual, an' extremely satisfactory report of the cleanliness and order prevailing in every department there. The patients are seven in number, all " males, and are being well cared for. We find the institution is indebted to Mrs. Clowes for her annual kind donation of illustrated papers, to Mrs. Lemon for a package of linen, and to Mrs. Reid, of Elderslie, for a ca e of fresh fruit. Your Committee have also to acknowledge" the gift of a handsome arm-chair from Mr. John Thompson, valued at L 4 or L 4 10s. We have, in pursuance of powers delegated to us, made satisfactory arrangements for the laying of the house gas service and the putting up of six brackets and nine pendants (twenty lights in all), with globes complete, for L 22, the work to be done in an efficient manner, and to be begun forthwith. We understand the Municipal Corporation will concurrently do their part in conducting the mains into the building. We submit accounts for payment aggregating L 25 13s lOd. : The contractor for removing the grass on ■the Hospital grounds is progressing with the work. ■ - . F. H. Townsend. D. S. Montagu, Convener. Mm, M'lntosh. The report was adopted, and it was resolved that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr. J. Thompson for his very thoughtful present to the institution. The annual report and balance-sheet, which are to be brought up at the meeting of subscribers to be held on Tuesday next, were read and adopted, as also was the medical superintendent's report for the past year. On the motion of Mr. Kerr, seconded by Mr. Montagu, it was resolved that a bonus of L2O be given to the Warder for the satisfactory manner in . which he and the Matron had performed their duties during the past year. Mr. Shrimski, in a few appropriate remarks, proposed the following resolution :—" That a vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes to the President for the able manner with which he has discharged his duties during his term of office." Mr. Montagu seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously. Mr. T. H. Brown, in replying, said that as this was the last meeting of the present Committee of the Hospital, lie would like to thank them for the manner in which they had supported him in his capacity as President of the institution, the prosperity I of which they all had so much at heart. During his term of office the Committee had at all times been ready and able to tender counsel that had had the effect of forwarding its interests, and he felt it his pleasant duty on this occasion to express his conviction that the Committee, more than himself, had contributed to place the premier charitable institution of this district in the successful position in which they left it at the end of their term of office. He also' added that the people of this district were deserving of great credit for. the manner in which they had subscribed to the funds of the Hospital during the past hard times, and expressed a hope that, the incoming Committee would meet with . the same amount of success as the outgoing one had done. : This .being all the business, the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair. ---- -' •
