NORTH OTAGO RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
The January competition of the members of this Association was commenced at the head-quarters butts this morning. Eight members only competed, and though the morning was a favorable one for shooting the scores were considerably below the average, the greatest falling off being strangely shown by Vol. R. Harding, one of the most reliable shots in the district. The following are the scores : 400 500 600 Pts Tl Lieut. Headland, No. 1 Co. 24 20 20 Capt. M'Corkindale, C.C. 21 23 19 Lieut. Holdsworth, Art. 22 21 15 5 63 Mr. A. J. S. Headland ... 20 13 22 3 58 Mr. T. W. Brebner ... 12 17 19 8 56 Vol. R. Harding, No. 1 Co. 25 16 13 Vol. Kay, No. 1 Co. ... 22 19 7 3 51 Mr. J. Somerville ... 20 14 2 1 37
Another squad commenced firing this afternoon, but at the request of Dr. Garland, who mentioned that the firing was likely to greatly affect a patient lying ill near the range, the competition was postponed until a date to be fixed by the Council of the Association. Only four marksmen were present, and the scores made, so far as the firing had gone, were as follow : 400 500 Tl. Vol. Morris, No. 1 Co. ... 25 21—46 Mr. R. L. Rule 24 21-45 Vol. Russell, No. 1 Co. ... 24 21—45 Captain Morton, Art. ... 22 21—43
