AUCTIONEER'S REPORT. Mr. A. H. Maude reports having to-day held a sale at his stores of pianos, stoves, registered grates, carpets, crockery, &c The attendance was small, but the binding was fairly spirited- AD the lots offered were sold with the exception of two pianos, which were passed in, the prices offered not reaching vendors' reserves. The following are the prices realised :—Coal scuttles, from 5a to '32 a.; registered grates, 17s to 275; office stoves, 17s to 2>s; stoves, 30s to 90s. THE LABOR MARKET. Mr. Henry Macintosh reports for the week ending 17th January, as follows : Business in the labor market has very much improved, all classes of servants'meeting with engagements freely. The demand in experienced servants exceeds the supply. and has always done so ;thc new importations seem to make no difference unless to lower the wages for the ordinary class. Rates of waccs as follow : Married couples, L 65 to L 75; shepherds. L 55 to L 6 5; ploughmen, 208 to 22s 6d with harvest wages; men cooks, 30s to 40s; female cooks, 20s to 30s ; housemaids, 13a to 15s; waiters, 20s to 2os j | waitresses, 13s to 15s ; barmaids, 25s to 30s; barmen, 30s to 403; housekeepers, 140; good general servants, 130 to 136; ordinary, L 25 to L3O; boys and girls, 7s to 10s; grooms, 20a to 25a; grooms and gardeners 'combined, 25a to 30s. Trades slack; wages low. Probable harvest wages, as per advice, 30a to 40s. DUNEDIN. [bt telegrafh.] January 16. Millers are disinclined to operate until it has been stocked for a few weeks. Oats are overdone. Maize. —A cargo from Fiji sold at 2s 10£dto3s; new potatoes, fanners' lots, L4los to L 5.
