The start was a very poor one, both men being ordered to the right about in quick time. Clarke was also unfortunate, being brilliantly raught by Turner- just as, he was beginning to score. 10—3 —7. Conway and Paramor then made a stand, and the score was brought up to 37 before the former was clean bowled by Frith. A. Cargill joined Paramor, and "the scorers were kept at work for"a. time, several changes in the bowling being deemed advisable. At 70 Paramor Was given out lbw. After playing a steady aind sterling cricket innings of 27, Cargill's time had also come, Frith cleverly bowling him without the score being improved. Directly afterwards the wickets were drawn for the day,* Otago having lost six wickets for 70 runs.

TO-DAY'S PLAY.
, Play was resumed at noon to-day under favorable auspices, the weather being very fine. • Collinson and Crawshaw resumed their play at the wickets, the bowling being entrusted to Frith and Turner. When 80 appeared ion the telegraph the latter was relieved by Ashby. On the score reaching 91, Collinson put one into Sheath's hands at long-on, and the batsman retired. 91—7 —-18. He showed much of his old form, his play being characterised by good hitting powers. Haskell joined his brother colt. After half a dozen runs 'had been added to the score, Fuller took the ball from the Canterbury captain. In Frith's next over Haskell was dismissed for having his leg where his bat.should have been. 99 —B—4.8—4. Crawshaw was beautifully caught by Ashby at leg off Fuller. 99—9—4. M'Lennan was the last to go in, and it seemed unlikely that a follow-on would be aV.erted.- Such proved "to be the case, Cooke being bowled by Frith, with the score at 105, or six less than the required number. M'Lennan carried out his bat for half a dozen. Frith took six wickets for riims.
