ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU MAIL. Sir,—Much has been said and written respecting the lagoon as a public nuisance. There is a prospect of abating this nuisance to a great extent, if the earth which is being deposited there at present were properly utilised. If cast in round the islet, so as to leave an outlet to the stream, till the work is completed, it would tend to lessen the evil. But should the earth be deposited right across to the railway, so as to form another lagoon unconnected with running water, we shall have formed another prolific breeder of fevers in the centre of the town. The Board of health should, visit the place, and prevent this in time.—l am, &c., Anti-miasma.
