OPINIONS OF THE PRESS. Blindness and De afness. By the kind invitation of Professor Wallenburg and Dr. Grant, tho editor of this journal, ip company ■with the editor of the Saturday Advertiser, visited their consulting rooms, at the Criterion Hotel, yesterday morning. The first case shown was that of a Mils White, aged 11 years, the daughter of a settler at Oamaru, who has been totally blind for years. This young lady has been under the treatment of these clever oculists for three da>s. and, wonderful to say, her eyesight has been perfectly restored. The father of the girl assured as that he had placed her nnder the care of several medical men, who had failed to do her any good, despite the money he had lavished upon her. The nest was the case of Miss Hughes, a Dnnclin resident, who stated that she had been deaf for a period of over three years. Strange to say, she has only been under treatment eight days, and her hearing has U'cn folly restored." This fortunate girl is delighted" over her good fortune. The next subject under treatment was a laborer, named Patrick Francis, working at Logan's Point, who informed us that lattorly he was struck in the tight eye with a stone, bv which he lost his sight, and of his left eye has been materially effected by the blind one; but, thanks to the ft Professor Wallenburjr, ho has now recovered tiie cf his two eyes, and is able to iii-.. eru the smallest print. Herman Sbult/. of Hyde, was the la-t pat'eat introduced. He 3(ated that he had be", u totally deaf for yeaiv. and that he hni only been under treatment : or a few days, a*.ri now he could hear plainly. Thcss have numerous othei ca.c:; under treatment. I he c.v-i-M that \a i'.-u-u instanced should be sufficient to renio\« any doubt from the most sceptic«l. -All the patients that are now umler treatment havt- been tampered with by the medical profession with no satisfactory re.-uir, and this in the major portion of cases causes more aggravation, and makes effeet'ial rur.) more difficult. The above cases clearly illustrate that Dr. 'jrant and Professor Wallenburg are, without doubt, what they lirofess to : e, '.'enlists, Auiists, and Specialists. We would strongly recommend those who are either a filleted with blindness or deafnoaa to consult these gentlemen at once, as their stay hero is limited.—EveniDg Tribune. September 24th, IS7O. The Evening Tribune, of October IS, gays : Professor Walk-nburg and Dr. i; rant have again effected some more marvellous cuies in blindness. The editor of tbi* jov.rnsl, acc mv-.'-riied by Mr. J. J. Connor, visited the oculists' consultingrooms at the Criterion Hotel this morning. The first person the editor conversed with v/rvs Daniel Mahoney, a laborer, residing at Logan's Point, who stated tiiat he had been totally blind for some two weeks, through a severe cold he h?.d contracted. He had been under private treatment for a week, but he got worse instead of better. He was brought to Professor Wallenburg on the 11th fust., and, since then he has been tinder this clever oculist's treatment, with the result that he is now recovering the sight of both eyes. John Chalmers, a brickmakcr, residing at Pelichet Bay, stated that he had been blind of the right eye for over nine weeks, and the left one was beginn'ng to become affected by the right one. He was under treatment at the Hospital, but without any beneficial result. He has been under Profersor Wallenburg's treatment three week*, and can now discern the smallest object with both eyes. Patrick Conno>-, a miner, residing at Hindon, was the nest patient consulted. He had been totally blind of the rkht eye for three months, and had been in the Hospital nnder treatment, which, he state', tended to make the right eye worse, and to injure the left one. He went nnder Professor Wallenburg's treatment on the oth October, and now he is perfectly cured, and intends starting to follow his calling on Monday next. The cases that arc. instanced above are pnc3 in which the patients went to the oculists entirely destitute of funds, and were treated out of simple humanity and charity ; consequently, Professor Wallenburg and Dr. Urant are deserving of the thanks of the community for the kindness and charity displayed in these cases,—Tuapeka Times, November 15 th, 1579. AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT. TO THE EDITOR, pjr,—Yon will much oblige me, as well as benefit the public in general, by inserting in your columns regarding the cure effected on my right eye, which was totally blind when I placed myself nnder the treatment of Drs. Grant and Wallenburg. I also found myself losing the sight of th« left eye. I have now recovered my sight, and am goins to work to-morrow. Out of gratitude to those gentlemen allow me to thank them, and hope all those suffering in the eyes may avail themselves of their skill. —I am, &c., Patrick Francis. Witn-ss—W. J. Bawdkn, Logan's Point, Dunedin, 7th October, IS7O. A WONDERFUL CURE. To Dr Grant and Professor Wallenburg. Gentlemen, —Allow me to thank you for the wonderful cure you have performed in my case.
