Proceedings, began with the Freo Handicap, for which there were nine acceptances. The three heavy weights, however, were scratched, and Soukar became strong favorite, at level betting, with 2 and 3 to 1 against others. Oberon got away with the lead, but Soukar challenged him lialf-way, and soon had him beaten. Kuma waited till the turn, and then came full of running, winning by a length. Oberon was a bad third. Unknown and Grace Darling were never in it. Jfuma carried 51b over. Time—l min. 53| sees. Ladies' Purse, of 30 sovs ; 1£ mile ; welter weight for age ; gentlemen riders. Goodman's Chancellor, 5 yrs, list 31b (Mr. Bradley) 1 Hill's Unknown, aged, list, Mr. Taggart) ... ... ... ... 2 Eversley, Grace Darling, and Hornby were scratched, the latter being reported to be a little off.
