CRICKET.

On Saturday afternoon a match; was commenced between the Oamaru and Excelsior Clubs, on the ground of the former. Club. The weather was very pleasant for cricketing purposes, and some good cricket was shown. Mr. .Millington was .chosen captain of the Oamaru team, and Mr. G. Fenwick for the. Excelsior eleven. The latter having won the toss, elected to take the field, and the Oamaru eleven entered upon their first innings, Sumpter and Walls being the first to do battle. The innings was not a brilliant one, terminating for a total of 53, Nicolls (11), Borton (10), and De Lautour (not out with 11) being the only batsmen who got into double figures. Most of the players showed a want of form, the bowling being too good to allow of liberties being taken with it. The fielding of the Exceljsiora was: very fair. Withoutlos3 of time, the Oamaru team took the field, and Snow and Little faced the bowling of De Lautour and Grigg. Little did not remain long at the wickets,"but his place having been filled by A. Hartlej', a long stand was made. Several changes of bowling were tried, but the score was brought up to 78 before the partnership was dissolved, Hartley being caught by Smith off Millington's bowling. His 47 was made by very good free cricket. Cooke and Finch added a few to the score, and after Marshall had placed four to his credit, the stumps were drawn for the day, Snow, who played in his usual plodding style, being not out with 35, Mr. Murison acted as umpire for the 0.C.C., and Mr-. Davjes for the E.C,C. "*

The match wa3 resnmed this morning, when the players were a'_ r ain favored with fane weather. The Ex.celsior eleven resumed their innings, an.d brought their scire up to 134, or 81 ahead of the Oatiaru eleven. Snow added one to his scon before being caught by Walls,- off Grigg, D. Moore played a good not out: innings for 10. The bowling of the; team vas very good, and the fielding] firm, though several mistakes were made. When tie adjournment': took place for lunch thfc Oamaru ieam had lost two wickets for a very small score. . ' On resuming after lunch, Walls was speedily disposed of, and then Bort'onand Nicolls mads a stand, runs corning pretty freely.
