At the Magistrate's Court this morning, E. Lambert, charged with stealing certain documents from the Thames Militia Office, of which he was formerly clerk, was remanded for a week, hail being allowed. Mr. Harley, of Hikutaia has lodged through his solicitor a complaint .against; fpur of the natives why obstructed his survey last Saturday, and nn information for assault against two. The case will be heard next Friday. The survey party, headed by R. 0. Long, wore engaged in surveying a piece of Mr. Alley's land afc Hikutaia, the Crown Grant of which was granted nearly 40 years ago. A mob of 15 armed, and 300 unarmed men, headed by Tainati Pafae, a native assessor, stopped the work, although Mr. Long and his chain-men were on the County road. DUNEDIN. Novembers. Mr. IT. Driver and Mr. W. D. Steuarf, M.H.R.'s, will leave Dunedin for Weliinu'ton on Saturday. It is renorted that Mr. Henry IJrivor has resigned his position as Dunedin manager of the New Zealand Loan and .Mercantile Agency Company, owing to the necessity for his devoting his undivided attention to private business Mr. D. Stronach has been appointed manager pro trm, PORT CHALMERS. November G. The floating dock at Port Chalmers was unmoored to-day, and taken to Dunedin, after a ten-years' stay in the Port. It is anticipated that an increase of business will result from the shift. A strong K, W, gale is blowing. CHRISTCHURCH. November 5. Robertson was sentenced to two years' imprisonment to-day, on four charges of obtaining goods hy valueless cheques. Orders were also given to issue 50 passes to married men 0111325 to Weka Pass, and 25 to the Albury works. These were being issued to applicants during tliq day. Bishop Moi-an arrived from Wellington by the Wakatipu, and was received by publio demonstration of the Catholic bod}-. The inquest on the body of the child Fogartj-, who was found dead yesterday morning, was commenced to-day, and adjourned for a fortnight. The evidence showed nOglect on tho part of the parents. INVERCARGILL. November 5. It is estimated tjiat the Waimea Plains railway will be finished in four months. The crops in the Mataura district are looking remarkably v,-pll ; soipe of tlie barley and oats are already bearded. A nian named Joseph Weston was brought up at the Police Court to-day, charged with arson, and remanded. NELSON. November G. A man named Lawrence has attempted to commit suicide by taking poison. A doctor was immediately called in, and pronounced him to be out of danger. The cause of the act is ta quarrels with his wife. KUMAPvA. November G. A man named John Bird was killed at Bush Terrace by a tunnel collapsing. At the inquest the jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
